The ceremony, held on December 30, 2025, brought together leaders from across Kenya’s political divide to pay tribute to Jirongo, a controversial respected figure in national politics.

Salasya emphasized the importance of unity and respect, in particular calling on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and its stalwarts to refrain from attacking former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Salasya argued that Uhuru’s contributions especially his support in Kenyan politics and his role in past elections, ought to be acknowledged rather than disparaged.

He urged ODM leaders to allow Uhuru have peace of mind and focus instead on meaningful engagement within the government of national unity formed after the 2022 elections.

Salasya’s speech struck a conciliatory tone amid rising tensions between sections of ODM and Uhuru loyalists.

He underscored that political disagreements should not overshadow the solemnity of a burial and the need for respect during a period of mourning.

Salasya’s appeal was for political actors, especially within ODM, to exercise restraint and humility, recognizing that the nation’s political discourse benefits more from respect and cooperation than from hostility.
