Kiambu County Government has extended the deadline for its ongoing land rates waiver program, giving property owners additional time to clear outstanding principal land rates and benefit from a 100 percent waiver on accrued interest and penalties.
The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s administration, aims to boost revenue collection while easing the financial burden on landowners who have accumulated significant arrears over the years.
According to a notice issued by the county government, the waiver period has now been extended to June 30, 2026.
The extension offers land and plot owners another opportunity to regularize their accounts without incurring additional costs arising from penalties and interest charges.
County officials emphasized that to qualify for the waiver, property owners must settle the full principal amount of unpaid land rates within the waiver period.
Only those who clear the outstanding principal debt will benefit from the complete cancellation of accumulated penalties and interest.
“The County Government of Kiambu has waived 100 percent interest and penalties accrued on unpaid rates. To qualify for the waiver, land and plot owners must clear the unpaid principal land rates amount within the waiver period,” the notice stated.
Residents have been advised to visit the respective sub-county offices where their properties are located to obtain rate statements, verify outstanding balances and receive guidance on the payment process.
The county government has also outlined convenient payment channels to facilitate compliance. Property owners can make payments directly to the county’s account at Cooperative Bank, Kiambu Branch, Account Number 01103715435001.

Alternatively, payments can be made through the Mpesa Paybill number 4162022 using the relevant invoice number as the account reference.
The extension is expected to attract thousands of property owners who may have been unable to meet the initial deadline.
County officials believe the move will encourage voluntary compliance, improve revenue collection and support the county’s efforts to finance key development projects and public services.
Revenue from land rates remains one of the most important sources of locally generated income for county governments.
The funds are often used to support infrastructure development, healthcare services, waste management, road maintenance, and other public programs.
Governor Wamatangi’s administration has repeatedly emphasized the importance of enhancing local revenue collection while introducing taxpayer-friendly measures aimed at encouraging compliance.
As the June 30 deadline approaches, property owners are being urged to take advantage of the waiver and avoid missing what county officials describe as a rare opportunity to clear outstanding land rates obligations without paying additional penalties or interest.
