Ahead of the high-stakes 2027 General Election, the National Police Service (NPS) has signaled an end to uncoordinated political gatherings. In a firm directive issued on Saturday, September 5, police leadership announced strict enforcement of the Public Order Act, warning that no politician—regardless of rank, party, or influence—will be exempt.

Under Section 5(3)(a) and (c) of the Act, event conveners must formally notify the regulating officer in charge of their local police station between three and 14 days prior to any planned procession or rally. The submission must detail the organizers’ identity, physical address, exact venue, or proposed procession route. Additionally, all public political gatherings are legally restricted to daylight hours, specifically between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Read Full Article Here

The police service emphasized that these advance notices are critical for effective security deployment and crowd control. To prevent clashing political factions, NPS clarified that if two conflicting notifications request the same venue, date, and time, the later application will be turned down. Organizers will then need to submit a fresh notification for an alternative date or location.

This regulatory crackdown comes amid rising concerns over early campaign fever, political intolerance, and public disruption across the country. Deterring lawlessness remains a priority, with the NPS issuing a stern warning to anyone inciting violence, disrupting sanctioned meetings, or bankrolling criminal gangs.
