Governor Sakaja Fires Geoffrey Mosiria Following 2027 Gubernatorial Declaration
NAIROBI, Kenya — Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has relieved Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, of his duties in a minor county executive reshuffle.
The dismissal, communicated via an internal circular signed by County Secretary Dr. Machel Waikenda on October 21, 2026, takes effect immediately. The sudden administrative action follows days after Mosiria publicly voiced his political ambition to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

Mosiria’s public signals of a break in political loyalty and critique of current county administration appear to have accelerated his exit from City Hall. Prior to his sacking, Mosiria had acknowledged that his tenure under Sakaja was drawing to a close as he prepared for a full-scale campaign if backed by senior political figures.
As part of the operational adjustments detailed in reference circular NCC/CS/003/2026, Zipporah Njeri Mwangi has been designated as the Acting Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement, and Customer Service. She assumes these duties alongside her existing role overseeing City Culture, Arts, and Tourism.
The shake-up extended to other municipal dockets as well. Eng. Samwel Njogu was reassigned to serve as Acting Chief Officer for Mobility, while Godfrey Akumali transitions to the Housing and Urban Renewal docket alongside an acting role in Lands.
The Nairobi City County Government issued no supplementary statement explaining the political fallout, maintaining that the reassignments were effective immediately upon issuance.
