Residents of Kanjuiri Ward in Ol Kalou are set to benefit from a reliable source of clean water after the borehole drilling project at Wanjura Comprehensive School entered its final stages, with distribution pipes already being installed ahead of community water connections.
The project, which is expected to provide a permanent solution to the area’s long standing water challenges, marks a significant milestone in efforts to improve access to safe and clean water for households, schools and institutions within the ward.
Senior Economic Advisor to the President, Moses Kuria, announced that drilling at the school was nearly complete and that preparations were underway to connect residents to the new water supply system.
According to Kuria, the project is designed to offer a lasting solution that will ease the burden of residents who have for years relied on distant or unreliable water sources.
“Water is here and the pipes are already being distributed. Borehole drilling at Wanjura Comprehensive School in Kanjuiri Ward is almost done and preparations are underway to connect the community to a reliable and lasting water supply,” Kuria said.

He added that the project goes beyond providing water, saying it is aimed at improving the quality of life and restoring dignity to residents through better access to essential services.
The water project is expected to benefit hundreds of families while also supporting learning activities at Wanjura Comprehensive School, where access to clean water will improve sanitation and create a healthier environment for learners and teachers.
Kuria used the occasion to make a bold political statement, declaring that the era of campaigning with promises of water in Ol Kalou should come to an end.
“As I said, no one should ever come to Ol Kalou and campaign with promises of water again,” he stated, arguing that development should be measured by completed projects rather than political pledges.
He further maintained that the government’s focus remains on delivering tangible development across the country, including the Mt. Kenya region, through investments in infrastructure and basic services.
“We are delivering real development that gives people dignity and decent living in Ol Kalou, in Mt. Kenya and in other places,” Kuria said.
Access to clean water remains one of the government’s key development priorities, with borehole drilling and water distribution projects being rolled out in several parts of the country to address persistent shortages.
Residents are now looking forward to the commissioning of the borehole and the completion of pipe connections, which they hope will end years of water scarcity and reduce the time and cost spent searching for clean water.
Once operational, the project is expected to strengthen public health, improve livelihoods and contribute to socio-economic development by ensuring a steady and dependable water supply for the Kanjuiri community.
