Malava constituency politics took an unexpected turn this week after Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) parliamentary candidate, Wakili Edger Busiega, extended an olive branch to his rival, Seth Panyako, in what many residents have described as an act of rare humility and selflessness.
Speaking at Samitsi market, where he addressed hundreds of residents despite the drizzle, Busiega assured voters that his mission is not only to represent them in Parliament but also to unite the people of Malava.
In a bold and surprising declaration, he told Panyako who was recently heckled and forced to cut short his rally in the same constituency that he need not worry about his future.

“As my brother, Seth Panyako should not struggle about what to do if I am elected Member of Parliament. I promise that I will make sure he gets a job as a nurse in one of the health facilities I will fight to establish in Malava,” said Busiega, drawing applause from the crowd.
Busiega, a lawyer by profession, praised Panyako’s nursing background, stating that his skills would be best utilized in the health sector where residents are in dire need of improved services.
“Panyako is a good nurse who can serve our people well in hospitals. As I work in Parliament on laws and policies, I will ensure he continues serving the community through his profession,” he added.
The remarks were received with cheers and ululations from the gathering, with many residents lauding Busiega’s maturity and willingness to put community interests above political rivalry.
Some even described him as a “selfless leader” who values service delivery more than personal glory.
Local resident Beatrice Khavetsa said Busiega had demonstrated true leadership by turning a political contest into a chance for collaboration.

“What we saw today is rare in politics. Instead of abusing his competitor, Busiega promised to work with him. That shows he is a leader who will unite Malava,” she said.
Beyond his pledge to accommodate his rival, Busiega outlined his key priorities for Malava constituency.
Top on his agenda is education, where he promised to reform and strengthen the bursary allocation program.
He assured parents and students that the process will be transparent, fair, and inclusive, ensuring that no child misses school due to lack of fees.
“We will create a bursary program that is open, corruption-free, and fair. Every deserving child in Malava will remain in school,” Busiega declared.

He also reiterated his commitment to improving healthcare, citing the urgent need for more health centers across the constituency. He promised to lobby for government support and work with other leaders to ensure that every ward has at least one well-equipped facility staffed with qualified professionals.
As the by-election campaigns intensify, Busiega’s latest gesture has earned him praise not just in Malava but across Kakamega County, where political watchers say he is setting a new standard for leadership.
With residents already hailing him as a unifier and a visionary, Wakili Edger Busiega’s message of selflessness, service, and inclusivity could prove decisive in the upcoming election.
