The political temperature in Malava constituency continues to rise ahead of the much anticipated by-election, with former Kakamega Senator and DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah launching a scathing attack on Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Speaking during a campaign rally in Malava, where he was flanked by the Democratic For The Citizens Party (DCP) aspirant Edgar Busiega, Malalah accused Mudavadi of betraying the trust of Kabaras people by “hurting them instead of helping them.”
According to Malalah, Mudavadi has been misleading young leaders from the region with empty promises of direct nominations on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
Malalah specifically alleged that Mudavadi influenced several local leaders to resign from their positions under the pretext that they would automatically receive UDA nominations.

Among those mentioned was the son of the late Malava MP, Malulu Injendi. Malalah claimed Mudavadi asked Injendi’s son to resign from his parliamentary position with a promise that he would be endorsed as UDA’s flag bearer in the forthcoming polls.
Similarly, Malalah pointed to the current Kabaras Member of County Assembly (MCA), Hon. Ndakwa, who he alleged had been pressured to quit his seat to pursue the Malava constituency parliamentary race on assurances of a direct UDA ticket.
However, Malalah revealed that both individuals, despite being pressured to resign, have now been asked to participate in party nominations a move he argued could have devastating consequences.
“The critical question is, after all these promises, why are these young men now being subjected to a nomination process?” Malalah posed. “Losing such contests does not just shatter political dreams, but it also affects one’s health and dignity, leaving them to wallow in poverty.”
Malalah further eulogized the late Andanje, a former principal of Bungoma High School, describing him as a dedicated educationist who unfortunately was drawn into “murky political waters” by Mudavadi’s promise of a direct nomination on an UDA ticket.
According to Malalah, this political involvement might have contributed to his untimely death after learning there will be no direct nomination despite him leaving his work as a principal, Bungoma High school.
He castigated Mudavadi for what he termed as a pattern of exploiting the aspirations of young leaders in Kabaras for his own political gain. “Instead of uplifting our sons, he is destroying them with false promises. Let him come out clearly and tell the people who the flag bearer will be, rather than causing unnecessary confusion and despair,” Malalah charged.
Turning his attention to the forthcoming by-election, Malalah urged residents of Malava constituency to rally behind the DCP candidate, Edgar Busiega. He described Busiega as a man of integrity, a seasoned advocate of the High Court, and a leader with a proven track record in both law and community service.
“Busiega is the best man for Malava,” Malalah declared. “He understands the struggles of our people, he has fought for justice in the courts, and he has the vision to transform this constituency. Unlike the empty promises we are hearing from elsewhere, Busiega offers real solutions.”
With the campaigns entering their final stretch, Malalah’s remarks are expected to intensify the already heated contest, setting the stage for a fierce battle between the ruling UDA faction and the rising DCP wave led by Busiega.
