Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader, Senator Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah, has finally spoken on his earlier concerns regarding the appointment of Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi as the official spokesperson of the opposition team.
His remarks come just a day after he demanded that the role be given to a young leader who understands the challenges facing Kenya’s youthful population.
Speaking through a video message that has since gone viral, Malalah explained that after a candid conversation with DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua, he reconsidered his earlier position.
Gachagua reportedly called Malalah and convinced him on why the opposition team chose Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi for the crucial spokesperson role.

According to Gachagua, the decision to appoint Dr. Kituyi was guided by the need for experience, mentorship, and strategic leadership within the opposition.
He emphasized that Dr. Kituyi, a seasoned politician and former UN official, brings global experience and national recognition that would strengthen the opposition’s messaging while also mentoring young leaders rising within the political space.
“Honorable Malalah is a visionary leader who listens and accommodates different perspectives,” Gachagua stated while addressing party supporters in Laikipia.
“He has already empowered the youth by appointing many of them into leadership positions within the DCP Party. But when it comes to the role of spokesperson, experience is vital. Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi will guide and mentor the youth as they prepare to take over the future of this country.”
The DCP Party leader further praised Malalah for his humility and maturity in leadership, noting that the senator’s ability to put aside personal preferences for the greater good of the party shows political discipline.

Malalah Responds with Respect
Senator Malalah acknowledged Gachagua’s wisdom, saying he had come to understand the importance of balancing youthful representation with the experience of seasoned leaders.
“I respect Honorable Rigathi Gachagua as a brilliant leader with good ideas,” Malalah said in the video. “After listening to him, I understood his position on why Dr. Kituyi is the right choice at this moment. Out of respect and for the unity of the opposition, I accepted his decision, even though my initial call was for a youth to take up that position.”
Malalah went further to call on Kenyans to rally behind Rigathi Gachagua, describing him as a leader who has the best interests of the nation at heart. He praised Gachagua for giving young people multiple opportunities within the DCP Party, while also stressing that Kenya must continue to balance youth energy with the guidance of experienced statesmen.
Debate Within the DCP Party Settled
Malalah’s remarks appear to have settled speculation of a possible fallout within the Democracy for Citizens Party following his initial opposition to Dr. Kituyi’s appointment.
Analysts had warned that internal divisions could weaken the opposition ahead of upcoming political battles. However, with Malalah publicly aligning himself with Gachagua’s decision, the DCP Party now projects an image of unity and stability.
Political observers argue that Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi’s appointment could enhance the opposition’s credibility, especially in international circles, while the heavy involvement of youth within the DCP structure ensures that the party remains connected to Kenya’s majority population.
As the dust settles, Malalah’s willingness to listen, compromise, and stand with his party leader has positioned him as a pragmatic politician who values unity over personal interests.
