Prime Cabinet Secretay Musalia Mudavadi has been doing everything possible to show his support towards President Dr William Samoei Arap Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza Alliance Government.
But this time around, Hon Mudavadi has been cornered by former Makueni County Governor Kivutha Kibwana who decided to offer him some words of wisdom. He educated him on this matter.
Addressing an event in Western Kenya, Mudavadi cautioned Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the emerging Linda Mwananchi movement against attempting to form a new political outfit less than a year before the polls.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary argued that establishing a party with a strong national footprint and grassroots polling station structures requires extensive time and cannot be achieved within a few months.
He questioned whether the new opposition movement possessed the structural reach previously maintained by traditional parties, suggesting that holding rallies in market centers without establishing local machinery would fall short.
In response, Kivutha Kibwana dismissed Mudavadi’s assertions, citing historic milestones to demonstrate that political movements in Kenya can achieve rapid victory regardless of their setup timeline.
Kibwana pointed out that KANU and KADU were registered in 1960, after which KANU secured victory in the February 1961 election. He further highlighted the National Rainbow Coalition, which was formed in 2002 and won that year’s general election in a landslide victory.
Additionally, the former governor noted that the Party of National Unity was established on September 16, 2007, and successfully fielded former President Mwai Kibaki in the December 2007 election.
The debate highlights the intensifying realignments within the opposition as leaders seek to organize robust political structures ahead of upcoming elections.
While government allies emphasize the necessity of established party machinery, opposition figures argue that political momentum and timing remain the decisive forces in Kenyan politics.
