The ceremony, held at State House Nairobi, was attended by senior government officials, members of the Judiciary, legal practitioners and political leaders.
Justice Warsame officially takes over the position left vacant after Justice Ibrahim’s passing, ending months of speculation over who would join the country’s highest court.
Speaking during the event, President Ruto described Justice Warsame as an experienced jurist with a distinguished legal career and expressed confidence in his ability to uphold justice, integrity and constitutionalism.
The Head of State said the Judiciary remains a key pillar in safeguarding democracy and the rule of law, adding that the appointment of qualified judges is essential in strengthening public confidence in Kenya’s institutions.
Ruto also paid tribute to the late Justice Mohammed Ibrahim, describing him as a committed servant of justice whose contribution to Kenya’s constitutional development would be remembered for years.
Chief Justice Martha Koome welcomed Justice Warsame to the apex court, saying his extensive experience in the Court of Appeal and the broader legal field would enrich the Supreme Court bench.

Justice Warsame, who has served in the Kenyan judiciary for decades, pledged to discharge his duties independently and faithfully in accordance with the Constitution.
He said he was deeply honoured by the appointment and committed himself to protecting the rights and freedoms of all Kenyans.
Legal analysts view his appointment as significant, particularly at a time when the Supreme Court continues to handle major constitutional and political disputes that shape the country’s governance and electoral systems.
The Supreme Court has in recent years remained at the centre of critical national decisions, including presidential election petitions, devolution disputes and constitutional interpretation cases.
Justice Warsame’s entry into the bench is expected to bring renewed legal expertise and stability to the court as it continues to deal with complex matters of national importance.
The swearing-in also signals the government’s intention to ensure continuity within the Judiciary following the loss of Justice Ibrahim, whose death shocked the legal fraternity and prompted tributes from leaders across the political divide.
With the new appointment now formalized, attention shifts to the Supreme Court’s upcoming sessions, where Justice Warsame is expected to immediately begin participating in hearings and judgments.
