Ndindi Nyoro has reiterated his administration’s commitment to expanding access to higher education for students from day secondary schools in Kiharu, setting an ambitious target of tripling the number of candidates who transition to universities based on this year’s KCSE results.

Speaking during the Murang’a East Sub County Career Day, learners from across the region were engaged in structured sessions focused on career guidance, academic motivation and life skills development.

The forum brought together educators, community leaders, and stakeholders in education, all aiming to improve academic performance while shaping learners into responsible and well-rounded citizens capable of competing in a rapidly evolving job market.

The Career Day was also used as a platform to reinforce ongoing education interventions under the Kiharu Masomo Bora programme.

The initiative continues to play a central role in reducing barriers to education by ensuring that learners in day secondary schools can access affordable and supportive learning environments.

Under the programme, school fees in all day secondary schools within Kiharu have been set at Ksh 500 per term, a policy designed to ease financial pressure on parents and improve retention rates.

In addition to the reduced fees, learners benefit from structured school lunch programmes, which include daily meals and a special provision of chapati every last Friday of the month.

According to local education officials, the feeding programme has significantly improved attendance and concentration levels among students, particularly in lower-income households where food insecurity has previously affected learning outcomes.

Infrastructure development remains another key pillar of the education agenda in the constituency. Several schools have undergone upgrades, including the expansion and equipping of science laboratories, aimed at strengthening competency based learning and improving performance in science subjects.

Authorities also confirmed that the provision of revision materials has been scaled up to ensure students are adequately prepared for national examinations.

Education stakeholders present at the event emphasized the importance of career guidance in helping students make informed decisions about subject selection and post-secondary pathways.

They noted that many learners often lack exposure to diverse career opportunities, a gap that such forums are intended to bridge.

The leadership further encouraged students to adopt discipline, hard work, and resilience, while parents were urged to continue supporting their children’s education journey.

Ndindi Nyoro emphasized that the broader vision is not only to improve academic outcomes but also to build a generation of empowered youth capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

He concluded by reaffirming the slogan, “We are African and Africa is our Business,” calling for unity of purpose in transforming education standards and expanding opportunities for young people in the region.
