Jubilee Party presidential aspirant Fred Matiang’i continued to strengthen his grassroots support network on Thursday after engaging residents of Laare in Meru County during a public outreach tour aimed at presenting his leadership vision and listening to local concerns.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary interacted with traders, farmers, youth groups and community leaders in the bustling town, where he emphasized the importance of people centered leadership and inclusive governance.

The visit forms part of Matiang’i’s broader nationwide campaign strategy as he seeks to build momentum ahead of the next General Election.

Addressing residents, Matiang’i said Kenya’s future depends on effective leadership that prioritizes economic growth, job creation, quality education, healthcare and improved public service delivery.

He stressed that leaders must remain connected to ordinary citizens and understand the challenges they face daily.

“We must build a country where every Kenyan has an equal opportunity to succeed. The concerns of farmers, traders, young people, and professionals must be reflected in national policies,” Matiang’i told residents during the engagement.

The Jubilee presidential hopeful spent time listening to issues raised by members of the public, including the high cost of living, agricultural productivity, access to markets, unemployment among young people, and infrastructure development.

Residents called for practical solutions to the economic difficulties affecting many households and businesses.

Farmers from the region highlighted challenges related to fluctuating produce prices and rising production costs.

They urged national leaders to implement policies that protect farmers and improve market access. Youth representatives, meanwhile, emphasized the need for employment opportunities and support for entrepreneurship.

Matiang’i assured residents that their concerns would help shape his policy agenda, adding that leadership should be guided by direct engagement with citizens rather than decisions made in isolation.

He pledged to continue consulting communities across the country to better understand regional priorities and aspirations.

Political observers view Matiang’i’s grassroots engagements as a significant component of his presidential campaign, particularly as he seeks to broaden his appeal beyond traditional political strongholds.

Meru County remains a key political battleground, making such visits strategically important for candidates seeking national support.

Residents who attended the meeting welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with the presidential hopeful, saying leaders should regularly consult citizens on matters affecting their lives.

Many expressed appreciation for the interactive format, which allowed them to raise concerns and seek clarification on policy proposals.

The Laare engagement concluded with calls for national unity, economic empowerment, and accountable leadership.

As the political landscape continues to take shape, Matiang’i’s outreach efforts are expected to continue across different counties as he seeks to consolidate support and present himself as a viable contender for the country’s highest office.
