Sifuna Reacts as Political Parties Registrar Approves ‘Linda Mwananchi’ Name Reservation

NAIROBI, KENYA — Nairobi Senator and former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has left Kenyans talking after sharing an official letter confirming a major legal win for his political outfit.

In a letter dated October 1, 2026, signed by the Registrar of Political Parties/CEO J. C. Lorionokou, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) officially approved the reservation of the name Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) for a period of 90 days.

The approval was addressed to the outfit’s legal representatives, Bansbury Associates Advocates LLP.

The breakthrough follows a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) in the case PPDTA/E001/2026 Michael Caroli Omondi & Another Vs Registrar of Political Parties.

The tribunal faulted the Registrar for procedural irregularities and setting aside an earlier decision that denied Sifuna’s camp the opportunity to reserve the brand name.

The tribunal ruled that the previous reservation by a rival outfit had automatically lapsed and could not block the Sifuna-led movement.

Taking to social media, Senator Sifuna celebrated the victory by posting a photo of the official approval letter accompanied by a brief, cheeky caption: “Wametii” (They have complied). The post quickly went viral, sparking intense online debate.

The 90-day reservation window grants the Linda Mwananchi Movement the legal pathway to complete its provisional registration requirements.

As Sifuna prepares for his next political moves, the approval marks a crucial victory in establishing his political identity ahead of future electoral contests.
