Speaking in a media interview on September 18, 2026, Odhiambo said she and six other people were stranded in the middle of Lake Victoria after the engine of their boat caught fire.
She said the situation became extremely dangerous because the vessel was carrying additional fuel, forcing her to prepare to jump into the lake.
The MP went further, saying she strongly believed that someone had interfered with the engine with the intention of causing harm.
She said she had not immediately reported the incident, citing doubts about the security system and recalling an earlier attack that she said had been dismissed by some people.
Her revelations come days after she faced a hostile reception during President William Ruto’s tour of Nyanza. At a meeting in Kisumu on September 14, residents heckled her as she addressed them, with some demanding that she clarify her political position ahead of 2027.
Odhiambo has been associated with the opposition-leaning Linda Mwananchi camp while also supporting the broad-based government, a position that has placed her in a complicated political space within ODM.
During the Kisumu meeting, she responded defiantly, saying she would support Ruto on her own terms and could not be intimidated.
Her latest account has therefore added another dramatic chapter to a political journey unfolding amid intense realignment in Nyanza.
