A fresh political storm is gathering around Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua delivered an unexpected message while speaking to Kenyans in the United States.
His remarks have sparked debate over whether Sifuna could be emerging as a serious force in the 2027 presidential race. Read Full Article Here
Gachagua did not mince his words when he described Sifuna as a serious presidential candidate and urged him to ignore those attempting to discourage him from seeking the country’s highest office. “Sifuna is a very serious presidential candidate. Don’t be discouraged by anyone, go for it!” Gachagua said.
The statement is significant because Sifuna, at 44, has faced criticism from some political figures who argue that he should wait before seeking the presidency.
Gachagua, however, strongly rejected that argument, insisting that young leaders should not continually be told that their time will come in the future.
He even opened the door to a possible political partnership, saying he would have no problem deputising Sifuna if political calculations showed that such an arrangement offered the strongest path forward.
He also suggested that Sifuna could potentially deputise him or work with other opposition leaders. The remarks have added another layer of uncertainty to the opposition’s 2027 calculations.
With Gachagua, Sifuna and Kalonzo Musyoka all being discussed as possible presidential contenders, Kenyans are now watching closely to see whether these unexpected statements could eventually shape a powerful political alliance.
