Tensions inside ODM may have been far deeper than many Kenyans realized and a fresh claim by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has suddenly brought those alleged divisions back into the spotlight.

Gladys Wanga says a heated confrontation between Raila Odinga and Siaya Governor James Orengo nearly turned physical at a critical moment for the party. Read Full Article Here

According to Wanga, the disagreement arose when Raila appointed Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o as interim ODM leader while he travelled to Addis Ababa to undertake African Union Commission campaigns.

Wanga alleges that Orengo was unhappy with the decision because he believed he deserved to be entrusted with the party’s leadership during Raila’s absence.

The disagreement, she claims, became so intense that Orengo almost exchanged blows with Raila.

The allegation has sparked intense reactions across social media, with political observers questioning what may have been happening behind closed doors within one of Kenya’s most influential political parties.

The claim also adds another layer to the growing debate surrounding ODM’s future and the competing interests of senior leaders.

With the 2027 political contest approaching, every disagreement within the party is likely to attract heightened attention.

Wanga’s remarks have therefore left many wondering whether the reported confrontation was simply an isolated disagreement or evidence of deeper tensions that had been building among the party’s top officials.

As reactions continue to pour in, attention is now turning to Orengo and other ODM leaders, with Kenyans waiting to see whether the Siaya governor will respond to the explosive allegation.
