DCP candidate promises to prioritize education, farmers’ welfare, and healthcare as Malalah warns against electing retirees
Malava constituency came to life on Saturday as Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Wakili Edger Busiega stormed the region accompanied by former Kakamega County Senator and DCP Deputy Party Leader, Hon. Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah.
Despite heavy rainfall pounding the area, thousands of residents braved the downpour to listen to Busiega outline his vision and manifesto at Samitsi market.
Busiega, who is eyeing the Malava parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election, struck a chord with the electorate as he laid out a comprehensive plan focusing on education, farmers’ welfare, healthcare, and accountability in the use of public resources.

Education at the Core of His Agenda
Addressing mothers and youth, Busiega promised that no child in Malava would be left behind when it comes to accessing quality education. He outlined his commitment to ensure smooth academic progression from primary school to junior secondary, senior school, and ultimately to university.
“Education is the key to transforming our constituency. As your MP, I will safeguard the future of every child by ensuring that the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) directly supports bursaries, school infrastructure, and access to higher education. Malava’s children deserve the best chance in life,” he told the cheering crowd.
He pledged to redirect the CDF kitty to what he described as “pressing projects” that would yield tangible benefits to residents, rather than being misused on short-term gains.
Economic Revival Through Farmers’ Empowerment
Turning to economic issues, Busiega spoke passionately about the plight of sugarcane farmers who continue to incur heavy losses due to the long distances they transport cane for weighing.
“If elected, my first order of business will be to summon all factory managers and demand the establishment of a weighbridge right here in Malava. Our farmers must stop losing money to exploitative practices. The wealth of this constituency is in agriculture, and we must protect it,” Busiega declared.
The announcement drew thunderous applause from cane farmers, many of whom have long lamented unfair trade practices that eat into their earnings.

Healthcare for All
On healthcare, Busiega promised robust investment in medical facilities across the constituency. He said he would champion the construction of new health centers while equipping existing ones with modern equipment, sufficient drugs, and qualified staff.
“Malava people must not continue suffering due to lack of basic healthcare. I will fight for more facilities, and once they are opened, I will even employ my competitor Seth Panyako as a nurse in charge,” he quipped, drawing laughter from the crowd.
His light-hearted jab at Panyako, the DAP-K candidate, was seen as a strategic move to contrast his leadership credentials against those of his rivals.
Malalah Rallies Support
Hon. Malalah, who accompanied Busiega, called on residents to vote wisely and avoid electing leaders who have outlived their political usefulness. He urged the people of Malava to reject retirees and career politicians whom he accused of seeking parliamentary seats only to enjoy pensions and free perks.
“Do not send old men to Parliament to sleep and sip tea. This is the time for vibrant leadership that can fight for your interests. Busiega is a young, energetic lawyer with a clear vision for Malava. Let us give him the mandate,” Malalah emphasized.
Call For Unity.
Busiega closed his address by urging residents to trust him with their votes, promising to bring transparent and people-driven leadership.
“As a lawyer, I know how to make good laws and policies that will uplift Malava. Together, we will improve education, support our farmers, and make healthcare accessible. With your support, Malava will rise again,” he declared to thunderous chants of endorsement.
