Siaya Governor James Orengo has declared that the Linda Mwananchi movement is prepared to chart a new political path for the country, emphasizing that ordinary citizens remain the ultimate custodians of power.

Speaking during a public engagement forum in Siaya County, the governor described the movement as a people driven initiative focused on accountability, transparency and responsive governance.

He noted that Linda Mwananchi was born out of growing public dissatisfaction with rising economic pressures and what he termed as a disconnect between leadership and citizens.

Orengo told supporters that Kenya’s Constitution clearly places sovereignty in the hands of the people, arguing that leaders merely exercise delegated authority. Power belongs to the people of Kenya.

Leaders are only trustees. When citizens speak with one voice, change becomes inevitable,” he said to applause from the crowd.

The county boss framed the movement as a platform to amplify grassroots voices, insisting that it is not about political rivalry but about restoring dignity and fairness in governance.

He urged wananchi to actively participate in civic processes, including public participation forums and policy discussions, to ensure their concerns are reflected in decision-making.

According to Orengo, Linda Mwananchi aims to address pressing issues such as the high cost of living, unemployment among the youth and equitable distribution of national resources.

He criticized what he described as policies that burden citizens without adequate consultation, adding that leadership must remain sensitive to the struggles facing households across the country.

The governor also called for unity among like-minded leaders and citizens, saying sustainable change can only be achieved through collective effort.

He cautioned against political intimidation and urged security agencies to respect the constitutional rights of Kenyans to assemble and express their views peacefully.

Observers see Orengo’s remarks as part of a broader national conversation about governance and citizen empowerment.

Political analysts note that the Linda Mwananchi movement has been gaining traction in several counties, attracting support from leaders and civil society actors who advocate for reforms.

While Orengo did not outline specific timelines or strategies, he maintained that the movement’s strength lies in its grassroots appeal.

He encouraged young people to take an active role, saying they represent the future of the nation and must not remain silent on issues that affect their livelihoods.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Orengo’s bold declaration signals intensified mobilization efforts around citizen centered governance.

Whether Linda Mwananchi will transform into a major political force remains to be seen, but its message that real power rests with the people appears to resonate strongly with many Kenyans.
