Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has dismissed speculation of a fallout between him and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, insisting that the two remain allies within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) despite occasional differences in opinion.
Speaking during a recent political engagement, Babu said there was no personal animosity between him and Sifuna, describing their relationship as one founded on mutual respect and shared political ideals.
He noted that disagreements are common in politics and should not be interpreted as signs of hostility.
The outspoken lawmaker, however, stirred debate after declaring that he considers himself the most influential political figure within ODM’s current leadership structure.
According to Babu, his popularity among the youth, his consistent grassroots engagement and his electoral track record place him ahead of other leaders in the party.
“I have no problem with Sifuna. We are brothers in the same political movement. However, I believe no one in ODM’s leadership is politically stronger than me,” he said.
The remarks are likely to trigger fresh discussions within the opposition party, which has several prominent leaders positioning themselves for greater influence ahead of future political contests.
Babu has increasingly projected himself as a key figure in Kenya’s opposition politics, often attracting significant attention through his outspoken views and active presence on social media.
Political analysts say the statement reflects growing competition among ODM leaders as the party seeks to define its future direction.
While ODM remains closely associated with party leader Raila Odinga, younger leaders have been stepping forward to establish their own political identities and appeal to emerging voter blocs.
Babu argued that his political strength stems from his ability to connect with ordinary citizens and champion issues affecting young people.
He pointed to his electoral victories and development initiatives in Embakasi East as evidence of his growing influence on the national stage.

Despite his bold declaration, the MP emphasized that party unity remains essential and that ODM leaders should focus on advancing the interests of Kenyans rather than engaging in unnecessary internal battles.
He reiterated his commitment to working alongside fellow party members, including Sifuna, to strengthen the opposition and hold the government accountable.
Sifuna has previously maintained that healthy debate within political parties should not be mistaken for division, a position that aligns with Babu’s latest comments.
As political temperatures gradually begin to rise ahead of the next election cycle, Babu’s remarks are expected to fuel conversations about succession, influence, and the future leadership of ODM.
Whether viewed as confidence or political ambition, his declaration has once again placed him at the center of Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
