Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday hosted a high-level political meeting at his Wamunyoro residence, bringing together MCA aspirants, grassroots leaders, and Members of Parliament from Nairobi City County as he intensified preparations for the 2027 General Election.
The meeting, attended by Nairobi lawmakers Hon. James Gakuya and MejjaDonk Gathiru, focused on the state of Nairobi and the political strategy of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ahead of the upcoming polls.
Speaking during the engagement, Gachagua painted a grim picture of the capital city, saying Nairobi has lost its status as a model African city due to rising insecurity, poor urban planning, uncollected garbage, traffic congestion, and a lack of essential public services.
He noted that as Kenya’s capital and a key international hub, Nairobi should represent the best of the nation but has instead become a symbol of failed leadership and poor governance.
“Nairobi is the face of Kenya to the world, but what we see today is crime, disorder, dirt, endless traffic jams, and the collapse of essential services. It is time to restore dignity to this great city,” Gachagua said.
The former DP assured the hundreds of aspirants and party leaders present that DCP was committed to reclaiming Nairobi’s leadership through transparent and democratic means.

He announced that the party would conduct free and fair nominations for all elective positions in Nairobi, emphasizing that only candidates chosen by the people would receive the party’s ticket.
Gachagua urged aspirants to focus on grassroots mobilization and strengthen party structures at the ward and constituency levels to build a strong political movement capable of transforming the city.
He also reminded party members to uphold DCP’s philosophy of “listening to the people,” saying leadership must be grounded in public service and accountability.
Political analysts view the Wamunyoro meeting as part of Gachagua’s wider strategy to consolidate support in the Mt Kenya region while expanding his political influence into Nairobi, a battleground county with significant electoral weight.
The engagement comes amid growing political realignments as parties position themselves for 2027, with Nairobi expected to play a crucial role in shaping the country’s political future.
With the race for City Hall and parliamentary seats heating up, Gachagua’s latest move signals an aggressive push by DCP to challenge established political forces in the capital.
