Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has launched a scathing attack on his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of squandering his political survival through sheer arrogance, stubbornness, and reckless overconfidence.
Speaking to residents while inspecting regional infrastructure projects, Kindiki provided detailed accounts of his private attempts to protect Gachagua from the political fallout that ultimately culminated in his dramatic impeachment.
Kindiki revealed that during his tenure as the Interior Cabinet Secretary, he took personal initiatives to visit Gachagua late at night, repeatedly urging him to tone down his aggressive rhetoric and align loyally with President William Ruto.
According to Kindiki, these behind-the-scenes intervention efforts were completely rebuffed.
He expressed regret over how Gachagua dismissed the friendly counsel, treated him with open condescension, and arrogantly claimed to know best.
Kindiki noted that despite warnings that his political posturing was isolating him from the administration, Gachagua refused to change course.
He used strong metaphorical language to highlight how a leader could easily be dragged out of power like a monitor lizard due to pure incompetence and refusal to listen to advice.
The Deputy President further stated that Gachagua even attempted to recruit him into abandoning the administration to join the opposition—a move Kindiki strictly rejected to maintain government stability and public service delivery.
The fallout highlights deep political divisions within the Mt. Kenya region. While Gachagua remains critical of the administration following his removal, Kindiki maintains that the former second-in-command was the principal architect of his own downfall.
Kindiki emphasized that leadership requires discipline, humility, and strategic teamwork rather than endless confrontational politics.
