Wetang’ula’s Remarks on TSC Letters Land AG Oduor in Trouble
A recent statement by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula regarding the distribution of Teachers Service Commission (TSC) employment letters has sparked widespread public outcry and political controversy across the country.
Speaking to the public, Wetang’ula claimed that he has routinely accompanied Members of Parliament to State House, where President William Ruto hands them TSC employment letters meant for desperate job seekers in their constituencies.
Shockingly, the Speaker alleged that instead of issuing these employment offers to qualified citizens for free, several lawmakers have turned them into a commercial venture, selling them to desperate constituents for up to KSh 400,000 each.
The incendiary claims raised immediate questions regarding the integrity of public service hiring and the constitutional independence of the TSC.

The backlash spilled over into a public event during the Katiba Day celebrations held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
While attending the forum, Attorney General Dorcas Oduor was put on the spot to clarify the government’s stance and address the legality of Wetang’ula’s allegations.
However, AG Oduor struggled to offer a clear response, bringing up unrelated constitutional issues and appearing to evade the core topic.
Under mounting pressure, the Attorney General eventually deflected responsibility, stating that no official or institution had formally visited her office to request legal interpretation or guidance on the matter.
Her evasive remarks failed to calm the storm, drawing intense criticism from constitutional experts, civil society organizations, and opposition lawmakers.
Critics argue that the AG’s non-committal stance undermines public trust, especially when the Constitution strictly prohibits the political allocation of independent commission employment positions. The situation leaves both the Executive and Parliament under severe scrutiny.
