Tense Showdown in Parliament as MP Naisula Lesuuda Confronts CS Kipchumba Murkomen Over Samburu Cow Shootings
Interior Cabinet Secretary Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen faced a fiery interrogation in Parliament after being put on the spot by a spirited Samburu West MP, Naisula Lesuuda, over a controversial security operation in Samburu County.
The parliamentary session turned tense following reports that police officers shot and killed local livestock during an ongoing anti-banditry operation, sparking massive outrage among pastoralist farmers.
In viral clips circulating online, MP Lesuuda strongly reprimanded the Interior CS for taking a casual approach toward the destruction of the community’s primary livelihood. Challenging Murkomen’s explanation—where security agencies suggested bandits were hiding among herds—Lesuuda demanded that the government stop issuing senseless statements.
“Mwachane na ng’ombe zetu, mwachane na mbuzi zetu. That is our livelihood,” Lesuuda declared, insisting that security officers must distinguish between criminal bandits and innocent pastoralists. She warned that destroying livestock starves families and strips children of their school fees, further eroding public trust in law enforcement.
Lesuuda urged the Ministry of Interior to pivot toward intelligence-led operations instead of collective punishment against innocent citizens. She cautioned that continued destruction of property by security forces risks driving desperate communities to arm themselves in self-defense.

Despite the fierce pushback from lawmakers and affected leaders demanding compensation for the lost livestock, CS Murkomen ruled out reparations.
He maintained that the ministry lacks the budgetary framework to compensate affected owners, attributing the broader region’s security breakdown to historical underdevelopment and resource constraints within police agencies.
The fiery confrontation has sparked widespread discussion across the country, with citizens calling for greater accountability and targeted security approaches in northern Kenya.
