The political landscape for the capital city has shifted dramatically after East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Winnie Odinga declared her interest in the Nairobi senatorial seat.
Speaking during the memorial of her late father and former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, in Bondo, Winnie stated that she intends to succeed current Senator Edwin Sifuna.
With Sifuna eyeing higher political offices, she noted that a clear vacancy is opening up for the county’s leadership.

Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, who had earlier announced his own bid for the same senatorial seat, quickly responded to the announcement.
Emphasizing his readiness for a competitive showdown, Jalang’o welcomed the entry of high-profile contenders into the race, noting that having formidable opponents brings true excitement and momentum to the democratic process.
Winnie’s declaration and Jalang’o’s swift counter-response set the stage for a high-stakes nomination battle within ODM as heavyweights eye Nairobi’s top county oversight position ahead of the upcoming General Election.
