Nairobi, Kenya — Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has finally broken his silence on the controversial details surrounding his loss in the 2017 Kanduyi constituency party primaries.
Speaking during an address to ODM political aspirants in Nairobi, Sifuna shed light on the inner workings of the selection process that derailed his early parliamentary bid, despite having garnered substantial support and a strong local following at the time.
Sifuna revealed that his adherence to proper procedure ultimately left him vulnerable to internal party dynamics. Believing firmly in the rule of law and official electoral protocols, he personally accompanied the ballot papers to their designated polling stations on election day. However, he claimed that key figures within the party apparatus undermined the process.
According to Sifuna, while he was busy ensuring the physical security and formal delivery of the voting materials, his primary opponent bypassed the system entirely by paying off officials and absconding with the ballot papers. With the materials compromised, his opponent was subsequently declared the winner of the nominations.
