DCI Responds After Standard Media Accuses Detectives of Delay in Abduction Probe
NAIROBI, Kenya — September 4, 2026 — The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has moved to quell growing public outrage following accusations from the Standard Media Group that detectives played “hide and seek” with crucial evidence in a high-profile abduction case involving a senior editor.
Earlier today, Standard Media platforms publicly criticized law enforcement agencies for failing to act swiftly. According to the media house, repeated calls to the DCI to analyze the senior editor’s vehicle—which was recovered following the abduction—went unanswered for hours.
The company expressed deep concern that delays in processing the vehicle threatened to compromise vital forensic evidence, including latent fingerprints left behind by the alleged abductors.

However, in video footage later shared across Standard Media digital channels, the DCI responded to the pressure by dispatching a team from the Forensic Fingerprint Identification Bureau to the site where the vehicle was parked.
The footage showed specialized crime scene investigators dusted down the car’s exterior and interior surfaces, actively lifting fingerprints and dusting for forensic trace materials.
Police officials present at the scene assured the media that the lifted prints would be processed immediately against the national criminal database to identify the perpetrators.
The incident follows mounting calls from press freedom advocacy groups, including the Media Council of Kenya, demanding a transparent and rapid investigation into the security of media practitioners.
While the late arrival of the forensic team sparked tension between the media house and law enforcement, the DCI maintains that all procedural steps are being taken to bring the culprits to book. Further updates are expected as forensic results emerge.
