Sifuna Unveils Political Vehicle Ahead of 2027 Presidential Bid

NAIROBI, Kenya — Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna is set to unveil a political party to spearhead his presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 general election.

The announcement is expected on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at a hotel in Nairobi, where dozens of leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) have gathered alongside crowds of supporters. The event will clarify the political vehicle Sifuna and his allies intend to use to challenge President William Ruto.

The anticipated unveiling comes shortly after the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) approved the reservation of the “Linda Mwananchi Movement” name.

In an October 1 letter, Registrar John Lorionkou confirmed the reservation following a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), which overturned an earlier rejection.

The decision grants a 90-day window to finalize full registration requirements. Sifuna welcomed the breakthrough on social media with the caption “wametii.”

Because establishing a new party involves strict legal timelines, Sifuna and his team also explored adopting or rebranding existing platforms.

Among the options discussed was the United Patriotic Movement (UPM), linked to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale. Khalwale pledged on October 2 to shelve his party to back Sifuna’s presidential candidacy and run for Kakamega governor under Sifuna’s party banner.

The movement has attracted prominent opposition figures, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. Beyond establishing party structures, the team faces the key challenge of solidifying its place within the wider opposition to mount a unified campaign in 2027.
