A fresh push to fast-track development in one of Kenya’s most resource-rich yet historically underserved counties has taken shape following high-level consultations at State House.

The meeting brought together national and county leaders to review ongoing projects, identify priority areas and chart a path toward improving livelihoods through accelerated infrastructure and economic investments.

President William Ruto on Wednesday hosted Members of Parliament from Turkana County, where discussions centred on unlocking the region’s vast economic opportunities while ensuring ongoing government projects are completed on schedule.

During the meeting, the President described Turkana as a county endowed with enormous natural resources and significant economic potential that should be fully exploited for the benefit of local communities and the country at large.

Ruto said his administration had reached a consensus with the county’s leaders to speed up the implementation of key development initiatives across the region.

Among the priority projects are affordable housing units, construction of student hostels, establishment of modern markets, expansion of fishing infrastructure, and investments in road and water development.

According to the Head of State, these projects are expected to stimulate economic growth, improve access to essential services and create employment opportunities for thousands of residents.

The President also emphasized that security, peace and social cohesion remain fundamental pillars in the government’s broader development agenda for Turkana.

He noted that sustained peace would enable investors to exploit the county’s abundant natural resources while creating an environment where businesses and communities can thrive.

Ruto observed that improved security would also support ongoing infrastructure projects and encourage greater economic activity, particularly in sectors such as fishing, trade, livestock and natural resource development.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive development, saying no region would be left behind in the implementation of national development programmes.

The President further pledged continued collaboration between the national government and Turkana leaders to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and address the specific needs of residents.

Turkana has increasingly attracted national attention due to its vast mineral wealth, oil deposits, renewable energy potential and strategic location along Kenya’s northern frontier.

However, leaders have consistently called for increased investments in infrastructure and public services to unlock the county’s full economic potential.

The latest meeting signals renewed efforts by the Kenya Kwanza administration to accelerate development in the region while strengthening partnerships with local leadership.

Ruto expressed confidence that the planned investments would improve livelihoods, expand economic opportunities and position Turkana as a major contributor to Kenya’s long-term economic transformation.

He reiterated that the government’s focus remains on ensuring every Kenyan, regardless of location, benefits from inclusive and sustainable development.
