But Busia County Senator Okiya Omtata has taken a swipe at Senator Edwin Sifuna as he lectured him and his Linda Mwananchi faction during a burial funeral in Western.
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has issued a direct political challenge to the Linda Mwananchi movement, urging the emerging political lobby to formally register as a fully-fledged political party before engaging in high-level national coalition talks.
The lawmaker emphasized that serious discussions regarding the country’s socio-economic future and governance mandate require structured political platforms rather than informal pressure groups.
Addressing members of the movement during a legislative engagement, Omtatah noted that while civic advocacy plays a vital role in holding the government accountable, true democratic change and meaningful dialogue are driven through structured political entities.
He pointed out that if Linda Mwananchi seeks a seat at the negotiation table to shape national policy, formulate electoral strategies, and address pressing economic concerns affecting ordinary citizens, it must legitimize its standing within the country’s legal and political framework.
The lawmaker highlighted that transforming into an officially registered political party would give the movement the necessary legal mandate, clear leadership structures, and defined institutional goals needed to participate in broad national political alliances.
He cautioned against remaining an amorphous advocacy entity, arguing that political influence demands a recognized electoral platform capable of sponsoring candidates and driving policy agendas.
Omtatah reaffirmed his commitment to national reform, constitutionalism, and economic justice, stating that he remains open to collaborating with like-minded movements.
However, he insisted that formal party registration remains a non-negotiable prerequisite for structured negotiations on moving Kenya forward.
His call comes amid shifting realignments across the political landscape, where civil society groups and opposition factions are consolidating power ahead of future electoral cycles.
By urging Linda Mwananchi to take the decisive step toward party formation, Omtatah aims to ensure that subsequent discussions on national dialogue and political coalitions are grounded in institutional legitimacy and accountability.
