Kaluma Fires Back at Sifuna Over Homa Bay Infrastructure Jibe
A heated political spat has erupted between Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over the state of infrastructure in Homa Bay County.
The exchange began when Sifuna, the former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General, took a swipe at the region’s road network during a recent visit.
Sifuna mocked claims that the region was benefiting from the broad-based administration, suggesting that real development remains elusive despite political alignments.
“Bwana walisema huku Homa Bay ndio kuna shiny things kumbe ni ukora tu… dust is constant,” Sifuna posted on his social media platforms, highlighting the dusty roads to poke fun at the ongoing development claims.
Unimpressed by the jibe, Kaluma swiftly responded, defending the development record and dismissing the Nairobi Senator’s remarks as political theater. Kaluma accused Sifuna of intentionally ignoring tangible progress made in the county to focus on unpaved areas.

“When you avoid President William Ruto’s shiny things in Homa Bay and choose to go and speak with roan antelopes in Ruma National Park!” Kaluma retorted. “We can’t allow jokers to play on the roads built for us by President Ruto after years of neglect.”
Kaluma emphasized that the current administration is actively fixing infrastructure that had suffered decades of marginalization. He argued that Sifuna went out of his way to highlight rural game reserve areas while overlooking the major road projects currently transforming the town centers.
The public clash underlines growing friction within the opposition ecosystem following the recent political re-alignments and broad-based cooperation with the national government. As infrastructure development becomes a key baseline for political performance, local leaders in Homa Bay remain steadfast in defending the tangible benefits of their partnership with the state.
