Just In: Ruto's Friend Tycoon Chivayo Is Dead

HARARE — Prominent Zimbabwean business tycoon Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, are feared to be among six people who died after a helicopter crashed in Marondera, Eastern Zimbabwe, on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the ill-fated aircraft went down in a rural area of Marondera at approximately 5:00 PM (1700 hours). Local media reports indicate that there were no survivors among the six occupants on board, which included Chivayo, his wife, two other passengers, and two pilots.

The Zimbabwean government confirmed the tragedy in an official statement issued by Nick Mangwana, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services.

“The government wishes to confirm that a helicopter crash has occurred, involving one high-profile businessman, three other passengers, and two pilots. Current information indicates that there were no survivors in this crash,” Mangwana stated. “We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the victims, their families, and their friends during this difficult time.”

Authorities noted that the ZRP will release the full list of victims’ names following formal identification and the notification of next of kin. Investigators have not yet established the cause of the crash, and official inquiries are underway.
