A political message posted by Sam Atandi has added a fresh twist to the growing contest inside Linda Mwananchi, with James Orengo now facing pointed criticism over the way he is pursuing his presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election. Read Full Article Here

Atandi, an ally of the political establishment, appeared to mock Orengo after a post suggesting that the Siaya Governor is the presidential candidate of Linda Mwananchi.

He questioned why Orengo had to rely on ordinary supporters to speak on his behalf, claiming that even a nominated MCA was unavailable to champion his presidential course.

The remarks come at a sensitive moment for Linda Mwananchi, where Orengo and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna have emerged as competing figures for the movement’s presidential ticket.

Orengo declared himself a serious presidential candidate in August, insisting that competing ambitions should be allowed and that the eventual flag bearer should be selected through a credible process.

That position has placed him on a collision course with supporters who believe Sifuna has already built significant support within the movement. Several leaders have publicly backed Sifuna, while Orengo has maintained that the nomination question should not be settled before proper consultations and an agreed process.

Atandi’s latest remarks therefore add another layer to an increasingly public political contest. Rather than ending the debate over who should lead Linda Mwananchi into 2027, Orengo’s declaration has opened a new conversation about his support base and strategy.

The controversy also comes as political observers closely watch whether the movement can accommodate competing presidential ambitions without creating deeper divisions.

For now, Orengo continues to defend his right to seek the nomination, while Sifuna’s supporters continue presenting the senator as their preferred candidate. The eventual nomination process could determine how the competing camps proceed.
