A political storm is brewing in Mt Kenya region after a document went viral online. The statement, allegedly bearing a top politician’s signature, has sparked confusion among leaders and the public.
Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi has now come out to set the record straight. The former National Assembly Speaker says the document is entirely fake.
The controversial statement claimed to endorse splitting Mt Kenya East from Mt Kenya West politically. It was widely shared on social media, appearing to carry Muturi’s signature and backing.
But Muturi has flatly denied any involvement in its creation or release. He says he neither authored nor approved the statement in question.
“I have taken note of a document being circulated on social media and other platforms, purporting to be a joint press statement by leaders from Mt Kenya East and bearing my name and signature,” Muturi said.
He added that the document is fraudulent and lacks his consent entirely. According to him, his signature was forged by people with unclear motives.
Muturi urged Kenyans, political leaders, and media houses to disregard the statement. He warned against treating the fake document as genuine communication from his office.
The former Cabinet Secretary went further, pointing fingers at hidden hands behind the scheme. He accused unnamed government actors of spreading misinformation to divide opposition leaders.
Muturi claimed the forgery was designed to manipulate public opinion and sow discord. He suggested it was part of a broader strategy targeting unity among opposition figures.
The incident highlights growing concerns over misinformation in Kenya’s political space. Forged documents and fake statements have increasingly complicated political communication nationwide.
As of now, no arrests or investigations have been publicly announced. Muturi’s camp has not indicated whether legal action will follow the forgery claim.

The controversy comes amid heightened political activity in the Mt Kenya region. Alliances and rivalries continue shifting ahead of anticipated political realignments across the country.
For now, Muturi maintains his stance that the statement is entirely fabricated. The public awaits further clarity on who orchestrated the viral document.
