Wamalwa Offers DAP-K Leadership to Sifuna Amid Linda Mwananchi Registration Battles

NAIROBI, Kenya — In a major political development, Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has extended a lifeline to Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna. Speaking during a local radio interview, Wamalwa declared his readiness to hand over the leadership of DAP-K to Sifuna should the senator decide to join the party.

The gesture offers a political breakthrough for Sifuna, who has faced mounting hurdles at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) while attempting to secure official registration for the “Linda Mwananchi” outfit.

Despite leading delegations to the registrar’s office to push for registration, Sifuna’s efforts have hit roadblocks.

The impasse stems from competing registration attempts by rival factions. Reports indicate that parallel groups—including entities linked to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino—have submitted claims to variations of the names “Linda” and “Mwananchi,” triggering legal and administrative delays at the tribunal level.

The situation had cast doubt on whether Sifuna’s team could secure a formal party vehicle in time for future political engagements.

Reacting to these ongoing bureaucratic struggles, Wamalwa criticized the state mechanisms for allegedly frustrating opposition movements and creating artificial barriers for new outfits.

To alleviate Sifuna’s political dilemma, the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary affirmed that he would gladly step down from his role as party leader to allow Sifuna to take charge of DAP-K immediately.

“If Sifuna feels frustrated by the registrar, DAP-K is ready for him,” Wamalwa stated, emphasizing that opposition leaders must unite and share existing political structures rather than getting bogged down by official delays.

Wamalwa’s offer provides Sifuna with a fully registered, recognized political vehicle, potentially altering the opposition’s strategic planning ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle. Sifuna’s camp has yet to issue an official response to the offer.
