Bad News For Gachagua In USA As Unexpected Declaration Hits Mount Kenya

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his wife, Mama Dorcas Gachagua, are currently on an extensive tour of the United States.

Addressing various diaspora town halls across several states under tight security detail, Gachagua has been building international support ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, troubling political news from his home turf in Mount Kenya has cast a shadow over his overseas tour.

In an unexpected political twist, top regional community leadership—including prominent Akorino, Kikuyu, Embu, and Meru elders—held a high-profile presser at Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu.

During the declaration, the elders formally endorsed sitting Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as the official Mount Kenya spokesperson and political kingpin. The leaders declared their commitment to uniting the region under Kindiki, handing him the mandate to represent the mountain’s interests.

This sudden shift poses a significant political blow to Gachagua, who has been aggressively positioning himself as the undisputed defender and leader of the Mount Kenya region.

Controlling the Mount Kenya voting bloc is central to Gachagua’s strategy to challenge President William Ruto’s administration in 2027. Kindiki’s endorsement directly undermines Gachagua’s authority and threatens his grasp over the region’s vast electorate.

Reacting to the news from Kansas City, Gachagua dismissed the ceremony, calling the declaration stage-managed and insisting that real community power lies with the electorate, not “coronated” leaders. Allies from his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) also hit back, arguing that kingpins are chosen by the people at the ballot box.

Nevertheless, with Kindiki securing backing from key traditional and religious factions back home, Gachagua returns to a radically shifted political landscape in Mount Kenya.
