Gladys Wanga Dismisses Alarming Rumors, Confirms Oburu Odinga Is Recuperating Well

Homa Bay County Governor Her Excellency Gladys Wanga has set the record straight regarding the health status of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader and Siaya County Senator, Dr. Oburu Odinga, following alarming rumors circulating online.

The clarification comes after coordinated social media reports falsely claimed that the veteran politician had passed away at The Nairobi Hospital. The unfounded rumors suggested that Dr. Oburu had suffered a medical emergency shortly after returning from the United Kingdom, where he had been receiving specialized medical assessment and care.

Dispelling the claims, Governor Wanga—who also serves as the ODM National Chairperson—confirmed that she personally visited the ODM leader and verified that he is alive, steady, and making good progress in his recovery.

“My party leader Dr. Oburu is recovering steadily. I was with him this evening, and he is in high spirits,” Wanga stated, reassuring party supporters and the nation at large. She noted that while he remains in good hands, he requires adequate time to rest before resuming his full public and political engagements.

Wanga’s statement aligns with remarks from ODM Communications Director Philip Etale, who clarified earlier that Dr. Oburu’s visit to The Nairobi Hospital was for a routine post-travel check-up rather than an emergency admission. Etale cautioned the public against relying on unverified social media chatter and spreading sensational misinformation.

Governor Wanga urged Kenyans to disregard the malicious propaganda regarding the party leader’s health, calling on well-wishers and the nation to keep Dr. Oburu in their prayers as he completes his recovery.
