In a statement issued on Thursday, the police service confirmed that preliminary investigations had identified the male motorist involved in the altercation as a police officer attached to Nakuru County.

The incident, which occurred on May 6, 2026, was captured on video and widely circulated online, showing the female officer being confronted while carrying out her traffic enforcement duties along a busy road in Nakuru town.

In the clip, the motorist is seen engaging the officer aggressively as members of the public watched the tense exchange unfold.

The video triggered widespread condemnation from Kenyans, with many expressing concern over the treatment of female officers while on duty and calling for swift disciplinary action against the suspect.

In its statement, the NPS described the conduct displayed in the video as unacceptable and contrary to the values and professionalism expected of police officers.

“The National Police Service condemns the harassment and intimidation directed at the female traffic officer while lawfully executing her duties,” the statement read in part.

Police headquarters further disclosed that internal disciplinary procedures had already been initiated against the officer captured in the incident as investigations continue.

The NPS emphasized that all officers, regardless of rank or station, are expected to uphold discipline, professionalism and mutual respect at all times, especially while interacting with colleagues and members of the public.

The service also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting female officers from abuse, intimidation and discrimination in the line of duty.

“The Service remains committed to ensuring a safe and dignified working environment for all officers, including women serving in various units across the country,” the statement added.

Women’s rights groups and civil society organizations have since weighed in on the incident, terming the confrontation a reflection of the challenges many female officers continue to face within the security sector.

Several leaders also urged the police service to ensure transparency in the disciplinary process and to hold the officer accountable if found culpable.

The incident has once again sparked debate online over professionalism within the police service and the importance of respecting officers carrying out lawful duties.

As investigations continue, the NPS has urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation regarding the matter, promising that appropriate action will be taken once inquiries are completed.
