DCP Takes Action Against Gichugu Aspirant Jacinta Njeri Mbogo Following Kirinyaga Underwear Controversy
KIRINYAGA, KENYA – Drama erupted in Kirinyaga County after a video surfaced online showing residents—mostly women—protesting the alleged distribution of branded women’s underwear. The undergarments, printed in various sizes with the name of Kirinyaga Senator James Kamau Murango and bearing National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) branding, sparked outrage among locals who deemed the move disrespectful.
In the wake of the uproar, Senator Murango swiftly distanced himself from the situation through his legal representatives, Sakimpa & Partners Advocates. The senator denied purchasing, printing, or distributing the undergarments and condemned the publication of the video, insisting he neither authorized the use of his name nor managed NGAAF funds linked to the items.
Now, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has officially stepped into the fray. In a disciplinary letter dated September 25, 2026, signed by Secretary General Hezron Obaga, the party announced the suspension of Jacinta Njeri Mbogo, a Gichugu Constituency Parliamentary aspirant.

According to the official communication, the DCP Internal Dispute Resolution and Disciplinary Committee reviewed allegations concerning public claims and political activities in Kirinyaga County. The National Executive Committee (NEC) subsequently ratified the committee’s recommendation to suspend Mbogo from the party for 180 days (6 months) pursuant to Article 24.4(iv) of the DCP Constitution.
The party cited a breach of Articles 10.1(iii) and 24.2(iii) of its constitution, noting that public claims concerning payment for access to rallies, preferential treatment, and the alleged takeover of the branch office were unsubstantiated.
The suspension, effective from September 25, 2026, to March 26, 2027, bars Mbogo from participating in or representing the DCP at official meetings, rallies, functions, or any party activities. She has also been ordered to cease public repetition or publication of the claims.
“During the suspension period, you shall not participate in or represent the Party at official meetings, rallies, functions or other Party activities,” the letter reads, warning that further breaches could lead to additional disciplinary action or expulsion.
The DCP advised that any party grievances must be addressed strictly through internal dispute resolution channels rather than public platforms. Mbogo retains the right to appeal the decision under Articles 24.3(ii) and 31 of the DCP Constitution.
