Through his legal team, Kindiki argued that Gachagua’s petition lacks legal merit and should not proceed. The Deputy President’s lawyers maintained that the impeachment process was conducted in full compliance with the Constitution and parliamentary procedures, insisting that both the National Assembly and the Senate acted within the law.

According to Kindiki’s side, the courts should avoid interfering with decisions that were constitutionally handled by Parliament.

The legal team further argued that Gachagua was accorded every opportunity to defend himself during the proceedings before lawmakers voted to remove him from office.

However, Gachagua has strongly rejected those claims, maintaining that he was unlawfully pushed out of office through a politically motivated process that ignored crucial legal safeguards.

In his court submissions, the former Deputy President insisted that the impeachment process was rushed and failed to meet the standards of fairness and due process required under Kenyan law.

Gachagua’s lawyers told the court that their client was denied a fair hearing and subjected to political persecution aimed at silencing him.

The high-profile case has continued to attract intense political attention across the country, with leaders from rival political camps weighing in publicly.

Supporters of Gachagua have described the impeachment as a political witch hunt designed to weaken his growing influence, while government allies insist that public officials must be held accountable when they violate their constitutional responsibilities.

During Thursday’s court session, judges listened to arguments from both legal teams before postponing the matter to Friday next week, when further directions and possible rulings are expected.

Political analysts say the outcome of the case could significantly shape Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Some observers believe the legal battle could redefine alliances within the ruling coalition and influence the balance of power among top political leaders.

As the courtroom battle intensifies, many Kenyans are now closely watching to see whether Gachagua can successfully overturn his impeachment or whether the courts will uphold the government’s position that his removal from office was lawful and constitutional.
