Opposition leaders have expressed outrage at Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja for skipping a scheduled meeting meant to discuss a series of alarming attacks targeting opposition figures.
The meeting was set to include senior police officers and opposition party representatives, but IGP Kanja was absent without providing detailed reasons.
According to the opposition leaders, Kanja’s absence raises fears that the current government has not fully committed to ensuring the safety of political leaders.
It is shocking to see the Inspector General avoid a crucial discussion concerning the lives of opposition figures,” said one leader, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The opposition leaders also commended the National Security Agency for its efforts to ensure that effective measures are taken against the recent attacks.
However, they argue that these efforts require full cooperation from the police and transparency from senior officials.
Speaking to journalists, some opposition figures warned that intimidation and threats against politicians undermine the foundations of democracy and national peace.
They called on the government to guarantee the safety of every political leader, regardless of party affiliation.

The meeting aimed to review the recent incidents, identify contributing factors, and develop strategies to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
However, the failure to hold the meeting raises questions about accountability among top officials in maintaining political stability in the country.
Opposition leaders warned that if IGP Kanja continues to ignore calls to address these security challenges, they are prepared to take democratic measures to ensure the matter is handled transparently.
