Viral Video of Speaker Moses Wetangula Falling on Stage Sparks Online Buzz
BUNGOMA, Kenya — A short video clip showing National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetangula tripping and falling on stage has gone viral across social media platforms, triggering widespread reactions and health concerns from members of the public.
The incident occurred during a Kenya Kwanza empowerment drive in Mungore, Bungoma County. In the brief footage circulating online, Wetangula appears to lose his footing, going down with a loud thud while attempting to navigate the event’s platform.
Farouk Kibet, a senior presidential aide who was already on stage, reacted swiftly alongside security details to assist the Speaker back to his feet.
Although Wetangula quickly composed himself and continued with the day’s schedule, the sudden nature of the fall left onlookers and online viewers questioning his well-being.

The event in Mungore was part of a larger political sweep by Kenya Kwanza leaders aimed at solidifying the ruling coalition’s grassroots support in the Western region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Leaders present used the platform to rally voters behind President William Ruto’s reelection bid, showcasing developmental projects intended to uplift local communities.
However, the political messages were quickly overshadowed by the footage of the fall, which dominated discussion forums, WhatsApp groups, and X (formerly Twitter).
While political allies dismissed the event as an awkward stumble typical of public gatherings, critics and citizens raised questions regarding the safety and physical demands placed on senior public figures during intense political rallies.
As of Sunday afternoon, neither the Office of the Speaker nor the Ford-Kenya party leadership had issued a formal statement addressing the incident. Representatives at the scene confirmed that Speaker Wetangula was uninjured and proceeded with the event’s remaining itinerary without further interruption.
