Boston, USA — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made explosive and unsubstantiated allegations linking President William Ruto to the late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who died in a helicopter crash in Zimbabwe alongside his wife and four others.
Addressing a gathering of clergy in Boston, United States, Gachagua claimed that Chivayo served as a proxy and money launderer for President Ruto. Gachagua alleged that the controversial Zimbabwean tycoon transported large sums of foreign currency via private flights into Kenya, holding over KSh 1.5 trillion on behalf of the Head of State prior to his death.
“There was a business partner of his, a crook from Zimbabwe called Chivayo. Because I was his deputy, I know they were doing business together,” Gachagua stated, asserting that the sudden tragedy in Zimbabwe had left the president stranded over the unaccounted funds.

Beyond financial claims, the former deputy president alleged that Chivayo was acting as an intermediary for a South Korean election technology company aimed at manipulating Kenya’s upcoming 2027 General Election.
Gachagua described the deceased tycoon as an “expert in stealing elections” who was positioning foreign technology systems for the upcoming poll.
Gachagua also humorously distanced himself from any conspiracy theories surrounding the fatal air crash: “William Ruto, please don’t blame Riggy G. I didn’t kill this guy. I was in the United States; the accident happened in Zimbabwe”.
The former deputy president offered no documentary evidence to back his sweeping allegations during the Boston address. Neither State House nor representatives of President Ruto have issued a formal response to the claims.
The allegations come amid heightened political intrigue following Chivayo’s fatal helicopter crash near Marondera, Zimbabwe, which made regional headlines.
