Trump Unveils South Korea’s Major U.S. Investment Initiatives, Highlighting Alaska LNG Pipeline
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump announced South Korea’s major investment plans in the United States, headlined by a massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project in Alaska.
The announcement forms part of a bilateral trade agreement under which Seoul pledged $350 billion in U.S. investments—including $150 billion for shipbuilding—in exchange for reduced U.S. tariffs on South Korean exports.
The cornerstone of the energy package is a $54 billion Alaska LNG venture. The ambitious project entails constructing a 1,298-kilometer pipeline to transport natural gas from the North Slope to southern Alaska, where it will be liquefied for export to Asian markets.
Additional strategic energy initiatives announced under the framework include a large-scale gas-fired power plant in Encinal, Texas, alongside the construction of eight nuclear reactors.
