Tribunal Orders Registrar to Reserve “Linda Mwananchi” Name in Major Win for Sifuna Camp
There was jubilation among supporters of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following a decisive ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) ordering the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM).
The tribunal found that the Registrar’s decision to decline the registration lacked legal justification and violated provisions of the Political Parties Act.
PPDT declared that withholding the name infringed upon the applicants’ fundamental constitutional right to form a political party, subsequently directing the ORPP to reserve the name within seven days.
Political strategist Pauline Njoroge, a close ally of Sifuna, broke the news on her social media platforms, triggering immediate celebration among movement members.

Taking to online platforms, Njoroge highlighted the landmark victory, reassuring supporters that the legal hurdle manufactured to stifle their political vehicle had finally collapsed.
The ruling brings an end to months of frustration for Sifuna’s team. The camp faced persistent bureaucratic roadblocks after the ORPP initially rejected the name claim, alleging similarities to previously registered outfits like the Liberty National Democratic Alliance (LINDA).
Sifuna’s supporters argued that these administrative delays were state-sponsored attempts to frustrate the Senator’s political ambitions following splits within the opposition coalition.
Subsequent efforts by the faction to secure alternative vehicles—including attempts to rebrand existing outfits like the United Democratic Party (UDP)—met deliberate procedural friction from competing political outfits.
With the tribunal’s directive compelling the Registrar to register the Linda Mwananchi Movement name, Sifuna’s allies view the judgment as a vital lifeline. The decision clears the legal pathway for the movement to officially construct its formal party structures ahead of upcoming political contests.
