A major transport operator along the busy Thika Superhighway now faces an abrupt halt to its services. A critical decision from the Transport Licensing Appeals Board leaves thousands of commuters looking for alternative routes. The sudden legal shift follows growing public concern over safety compliance across regional highways.
This decision overturned an earlier move by the National Transport and Safety Authority. NTSA had revoked the licence following two fatal crashes along Thika Superhighway.
“The Respondent’s decision revoking the Appellant’s licence is hereby set aside,” the tribunal stated. “In substitution thereof, the PSV Operator Licence is suspended with immediate effect.”
Inspectors recently examined the company’s entire fleet of fifty-one passenger vehicles. Only six vehicles met the required safety standards. Forty-five buses failed inspection due to mechanical faults and missing speed governors.

Board members voiced strong concern over public safety standards. They stressed that commercial transport firms must protect passenger lives. Unsafe vehicles cannot operate on major public highways under any circumstances.
Nicco Movers must present every non-compliant vehicle for re-inspection within seven days. All vehicles must pass tests before any operations can resume. Failure to meet this deadline will trigger complete licence revocation.
Commuters relying on the popular operator face immediate transit disruptions along the highway. Regional authorities advise travelers to seek alternative transport options during the suspension. Meanwhile, transport safety advocates welcomed the tribunal’s decisive action. They emphasized that rigorous vehicle inspections prevent loss of life.
