Surreal and Emotional: Sifuna Breaks Silence After First Visit to Mzee’s Home Without Him

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has shared an emotional reflection after visiting the home of a respected national elder. Marking the first time he has stepped through its gates since the patriarch’s passing.

Sifuna spoke visibly moved. He described the moment as “quite surreal.” The absence of the late Mzee left a profound emotional weight on him.

This is the first time since I have known this home to come here when Mzee is not here,” he said, his voice laden with grief and reverence

The ODM Secretary-General also recounted a heartfelt phone call he received earlier in the day from the Mzee’s widow. According to Sifuna, the call came at a moment when he was struggling silently with emotional exhaustion.

Mama called me today and she told me, ‘Sifuna, you look like somebody who needs a hug,’” he narrated. The simple yet piercing observation, he said, struck him deeply. He admitted that he had not openly expressed the turmoil he had been battling. However, Mama’s intuition saw through it before he could articulate a word.

“I am eternally grateful that I have come to your home and I have gotten that hug,” he said. “It is going to renew my spirit and my strength.”
