International financial experts are turning their focus toward Kenya’s flagship micro-credit initiative. A high-stakes review
International financial experts are turning their focus toward Kenya’s flagship micro-credit initiative. A high-stakes review is officially underway to measure the scheme’s true economic footprint.
Global analysts aim to evaluate how low-income citizens leverage state-backed loans. Early data collection focuses on borrowing habits and long-term financial growth.
The International Finance Corporation is spearheading this comprehensive evaluation. Researchers are deploying quantitative metrics and qualitative interviews nationwide to track borrowing behavior, small business investments, personal savings growth, and broader financial inclusion across the country.

Cooperatives Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni confirmed the active review during a live television broadcast. She revealed that final findings will be published before the close of 2026. She stated that the World Bank came in with the support of IFC to undertake a quantitative and impact assessment of the fund.
This exercise builds on a commitment made by the Bretton Woods institution three years ago. At that time, the World Bank pledged full technical and financial support to monitor and scale the credit program. The assessment will evaluate how capital is deployed in small enterprises to ensure long-term business sustainability. It will also track individual voluntary and mandatory savings to gauge personal wealth accumulation over time.
