Netanyahu Praises ‘Heroic’ Passengers After Mid-Air Attack on Israel-Bound Flight
JERUSALEM — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the courage of passengers and crew members who intervened to stop a mid-flight disaster aboard a commercial flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday. The aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after a pilot stabbed his colleague in an apparent attempt to crash the plane.
Addressing the nation following what he described as a “serious security incident,” Prime Minister Netanyahu confirmed that the plane went into a steep dive and spin over Jordan as the attacker attempted to sabotage the aircraft’s control systems. Most of the passengers on board were Israeli citizens.

“I spoke with one of the Israeli passengers,” Netanyahu stated in an official address. “He told me that, somehow or other, he managed to break into the cockpit with one of the crew members, and together they neutralized the stabbing pilot while he was trying to sabotage the plane’s systems. Another flight crew on board entered the cockpit and managed to stabilize the plane.”
Netanyahu commended those who breached the cockpit: “I salute these heroes, who displayed exceptional resourcefulness and courage. They saved many lives. They prevented a huge disaster.”
The Boeing 737 landed safely at Tabuk Airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia, where all passengers disembarked safely without life-threatening physical injuries. The suspect was arrested on the tarmac and remains in the custody of Saudi authorities, who are actively interrogating him.
Israeli officials confirmed they are in constant communication with international authorities to secure the well-being and repatriation of all passengers. Netanyahu added that he has instructed Israeli security services to prepare for additional potential threats as assessments continue.
