Massive division has rocked the united opposition after Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni launched sharp accusations against Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during a live radio interview, Kioni claimed Gachagua is undermining opposition unity by seeking to manage and control former CS Fred Matiang’i.
Kioni accused Gachagua of blocking Jubilee Party’s expansion in Mount Kenya, frustrating efforts to secure strong grassroots presence in the region.
According to Kioni, Gachagua’s main interest is stopping Jubilee Party from gaining any inroads in Mount Kenya politics and leadership.
Kioni stressed that the battle for Mount Kenya dominance is hurting opposition unity, warning that internal wars weaken their stand against President William Ruto.
The Jubilee Party Secretary General further alleged that Gachagua deliberately tried to stop Matiang’i from being considered a possible Jubilee candidate.
Kioni insisted that Matiang’i had wide support in Mount Kenya, but Gachagua worked tirelessly to frustrate his political rise and candidacy.
The public spat has exposed cracks within the opposition alliance, sparking questions about unity, strategy, and trust among key coalition leaders.
Kioni further suggested that Gachagua’s behavior indirectly supports President William Ruto, accusing him of playing double politics in Mount Kenya region.
According to Kioni, Gachagua is secretly fighting opposition aspirants to protect Ruto’s re-election chances in the 2027 general election.
He argued that the Deputy President’s actions reveal a hidden strategy to weaken opposition, later striking a political deal with President Ruto.
These remarks have fueled massive division in the opposition coalition, raising fears of betrayal, mistrust, and political sabotage within their ranks.
Political analysts argue that Jubilee Party’s influence in Mount Kenya remains fragile, especially with Gachagua’s dominance over local grassroots leaders.
The accusations by Jeremiah Kioni highlight the growing political battles between opposition heavyweights, each fighting for control of Mount Kenya region.
Observers note that Mount Kenya’s voter strength makes it the ultimate battleground, and internal wars could cost opposition vital regional support.
The ongoing war of words between Kioni and Gachagua now threatens to destabilize opposition unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Whether Gachagua is protecting Ruto’s re-election or defending Mount Kenya interests, Jubilee Party’s internal fights have exposed dangerous cracks in opposition unity.
