ODM Dismisses Health Concerns Over Party Leader Oburu Oginga Following Hospital Check-Up
MOMBASA, Kenya — The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has downplayed reports raising concern over the health of party leader and Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga, reassuring the public that he is in good health following a routine check-up at Nairobi Hospital.
Speaking in Mombasa, ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale clarified that Oburu visited the facility on Sunday for age-related medical checks and was not emergency-admitted, urging the public and media to avoid sensationalizing the visit.
“Oburu is back. He went to Nairobi Hospital for a routine check-up—you know, at his age, he’s an old man. There’s no cause for alarm,” Etale stated, adding that he had personally spoken with the veteran politician.
Etale noted that while Oburu will step back from active political engagements over the next few weeks to rest, he will return to his official duties in due course. The announcement comes shortly after Oburu’s return from the United Kingdom, where he underwent a scheduled medical assessment and rest period.

Addressing upcoming ODM calendar events, Etale highlighted that activities scheduled for October will focus on commemorating the legacy of former party leader Raila Odinga.
He explained that the party and the Odinga family have dedicated the month to reflecting on the democratic freedoms and national values Raila championed throughout his career.
“It’s not festivities; it’s a commemoration. The whole country is invited to remember Baba because he stood for many things, including the freedoms Kenyans enjoy today,” Etale said.
With party structures currently managing daily operations, ODM officials maintained that the movement remains stable during Oburu’s brief step back.
